plant
New Zealand offers favourable conditions for lush, diverse plants due to abundant rainfall and plenty of sunshine – 80% of the plants are native species.
Trees and shrubs
New Zealand's evergreen native forests, including eucalyptus, Hawthorne pine, various eucalyptus and the largest native tree - giant kauri are amazing. Under the shade of the canopy, you can also see lush undergrowth plants, including countless native bushes, ferns, mosses and lichens.
Brilliant colors
The yellow four-winged flower may be the most beautiful flower you've ever seen in your life. If you visit North Island, you won't miss the beautiful New Zealand Christmas tree. Every December, bright red flowers bloom and adorned with a veritable New Zealand Christmas tree.
animal
Before the settlement of mankind, New Zealand was a particularly lively place! There are many rare and exotic birds in the vast and dense bushes. In the constant evolutionary process, due to the lack of natural enemies that need to fly, the wings become a dispensable tool for some birds. As a result, some of New Zealand's native birds have lost their ability to fly, including cockatoos, kiwis, southern ostriches, and the world's largest bird, the Terror Bird (now extinct).
After Maori and Europeans settled in New Zealand, they began hunting for birds and introduced predators such as mice and white pelicans. Coupled with the loss of habitat, some birds, including terror birds and arks, began to become extinct.
Native birds
The kiwi is a national bird of New Zealand. It likes to be active at night, not flying, and the long bird's owl has no nostrils. Today, kiwis are on the verge of extinction and are hard to see in the wild. However, New Zealand’s zoos and wildlife parks are also home to a number of exotic birds. Although it looks very cute, the kiwi still has a ferocious nature and a strong sense of territory.
New Zealand's famous native birds also include:
• The naughty scorpion parrot is one of the smartest birds in the world. They often attack a car to steal the windshield wiper or other rubber parts of the car!
• Cute Wika pheasant, a bird that doesn't fly, especially like shiny things.
• Southern ostrich with beautiful indigo feathers and bright red enamel.
• Honeybird, famous for its beautiful singing and white priest collar.
• The Morebok Owl gets its name because of its call at night.
Ancient crocodile
The crocodile lizard, a unique species that survived from ancient times, is the only remaining taro reptile in the world. In addition to the crocodile lizard, other species in this reptile family were completely extinct as early as about 65 million years ago. The crocodile lizards can live to be over 100 years old and can only be seen in offshore island reserves. The crocodile lizard does not pose any threat to humans.
Marine life
New Zealand has a rich variety of marine life, whale watching and swimming with dolphins is one of the most recommended experiences. The Little Hector Dolphin, which grows only in New Zealand's waters, is one of the rarest dolphins in the world. In New Zealand's rich marine environment, seals, penguins and fish and shellfish grow in a lush way.
National park and marine reserve
More than 20% of New Zealand's area is national parks, forests and protected areas – ideal for viewing native flora and fauna. The New Zealand hinterland has two world heritage sites - Tongariro in the middle of the North Island and Te Wahipounamu in the southwest of the South Island.
In the 14 national parks of New Zealand, many breathtaking unspoiled pristine landscapes and vegetation are preserved. In these parks managed and maintained by the Ministry of Environmental Protection, you can experience a variety of activities such as hiking, mountain biking, skiing and snowboarding, kayaking, fishing rods and more.
With 34 marine reserves, New Zealand is a great place to see local marine life. These protected areas have a strict ban on fishing, meaning that marine species cannot be fished or caught. These wonderful underwater worlds are a paradise for cruising, diving or snorkeling trips, one of the world-famous Poor Knights Islands.
