New Zealand combines the history and culture of local Maori indigenous, European, Pacific islands and Asia, and has become a melting pot of people of all nationalities in the world – but there are also shared features that make this island country a unique country in the world.

Today, New Zealand has a population of 4.4 million (collectively referred to as New Zealanders), of which approximately 69% are of European descent, 14.6% are indigenous Maori, 9.2% are Asian, and 6.9% are non-Maori Pacific Islanders.

Geographically, more than three-quarters of the population lives on the North Island, while the population living in Auckland accounts for one-third of the country's population. The rest of the population is concentrated in several major cities such as Wellington, Christchurch, and Hamilton.
